Overview

SnagV Video Downloader (“SnagV”, “the extension”) is a Chrome extension that detects and downloads videos from web pages. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is handled.

Data We Do NOT Collect

SnagV does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Personally identifiable information (name, email, address)
  • Browsing history or web activity
  • Financial or payment information
  • Authentication credentials
  • Location data
  • Health information

Data Stored Locally

The following data is stored locally on your device using Chrome’s built-in storage APIs. This data never leaves your browser and is not sent to any server.

  • User preferences — theme, language, download settings, filename templates, and blocked domains (stored in chrome.storage.sync)
  • Download history — filenames, URLs, and timestamps of completed downloads, limited to 200 entries with 30-day auto-cleanup (stored in chrome.storage.local)

Network Activity

SnagV monitors network requests using Chrome’s webRequest API solely to detect video streams (MP4, WebM, HLS/m3u8) on pages you visit. This monitoring is performed entirely within your browser and no request data is sent to external servers.

When you choose to download a video, the extension fetches video segments directly from the source server. These requests go from your browser to the video host — SnagV does not proxy, redirect, or relay any data through its own servers.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions, all used exclusively for video detection and downloading:

  • webRequest — detect video streams in network responses
  • activeTab — inject recording script when you click Record
  • tabs — associate detected videos with their source tab
  • storage — save your preferences and download history locally
  • downloads — save video files to your device
  • offscreen — convert video formats using ffmpeg.wasm
  • scripting — inject content scripts for recording
  • declarativeNetRequest — set request headers for cross-origin video segment downloads
  • cookies — include session cookies for authenticated video downloads
  • host_permissions (all URLs) — videos can be hosted on any domain

Third-Party Services

SnagV does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services. The extension does not communicate with any servers operated by SnagV or ToolDock Hub.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, transfer, or share any user data with third parties. No data leaves your browser.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
